To the editor:
As most of you are aware, the New Mexico Racing Commission will be meeting in Lordsburg on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Lordsburg High School Gymnasium at 501 W. 4th Street. The meeting is slated for 1 p.m.
Some time ago, we polled our members on how they felt about the Racino coming to Lordsburg. The majority of the responses were in favor, a few not so much. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and we respect that.
However, as your Chamber of Commerce Director, I feel it is my responsibility to inform our membership of opportunities that has potential for economic development and growth in our community.
Therefore, I would like to invite everyone that is interested to attend this meeting with the Racing Commission.
If you are unable to attend, but would like to keep informed, the City of Lordsburg is planning on livestreaming the meeting on their website at cityoflordsburg.org.
Marsha Hill, Director
Lordsburg-Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce
Editor’s note: According to the agenda for the meeting, the only item for the day is a visit to the proposed site of the Hidalgo Downs racetrack and a presentation by Hidalgo Downs, LLC at 2 p.m. No action will be taken by the board.
The Albuquerque Journal reported that five groups have submitted applications for the state’s sixth and last racino license.
