Good things you may not know until you read this article:

The Morenci Lions Club is a cross section of community minded citizens that seek to make our community a better place to live, work, and raise families. Often folks will find themselves in less fortunate situations. The Lions want of help those in need. The major focus of this group is to provide eyeglass assistance, a Christmas program for those in need and scholarships for graduating students. We also help organizations like the Mt. Graham Safehouse with their fund raising efforts.

The Morenci Lions Club will participate in the Clifton Festival of Lights with a fund raising booth on Dec 1st . They will be serving both hamburgers and corn on the cob. Any funds raised go to offset costs for the Christmas Assistance Program.

The Lions already have plans to provide Christmas Food Baskets to 23 families and toys for the 43 kids of those families. Each family will receive a complete Christmas dinner including a ham, rolls, pies, and all the fixings. Each child will receive at least three presents that are age appropriate.

The 41st annual Morenci Lions Club High School Baseball Tournament is a highlight of our year. The dates are April 11-13, 2019. There will be about 12 teams participating. Teams come from Phoenix, St. Johns, Round Valley and the local area. We will host approximately 200 baseball players during the tournament.

The Lions will once again assist the Mt. Graham Safehouse with their largest fund raising project of the year. We will host the Safehouse Golf Tournament in conjunction with the Greenlee County Club and Morenci Schools on April 27, 2019. The tournament draws the best players from both Greenlee and Graham Counties. We usually have 50 plus golfers participate.

The Morenci Lions Club presented 17 local High School scholarships last Spring to outstanding students to attend the school of their choice. There were scholarships presented to Morenci and Duncan students.

The Lions sponsor an ongoing project with eyeglass assistance for less fortunate Greenlee County residents. In 2018 we sponsored 47 pairs of glasses with assistance from Barnet Dulaney Perkins optical in Safford. Participants in this program are eligible to seek assistance every two years.
